Christmas 2012

The pictures were taken when we celebrated Christmas in Miag-ao, Iloilo City. It is just a few hours trip going there. We always go there for Christmas because our lola's house is there and a part of my father's childhood is there. As you can see from the pictures, we are really fun and a very big family. This is also the reason why every Christmas, we celebrate it with large amounts of food! We really enjoy our evening with the delicious local food that is home made specially for us. I'm always happy every Christmas because we get to give thanks to God for all of the food and the blessings he have given our family. Every after Christmas, we have an almost tradition that we always do. We always share our food to the neighbors of my lola as a sign of thanking God and we held a mass in my lola's house. This is an another example of a family gathering where you get to bond with your family. Enjoy the food that you eat together, and sharing it with others who are less than you.

Food with love,

Okay, so why food with love? I chose this topic because usually we make our food to our loved ones and we make them specially with our own love. When we make food for others, it simply means that we care for them. At home, I sometimes prepare food for my family. I make them breakfast when I want to or when it is Mother's day or Father's day. I like cooking food for others because I like the feeling of others liking your own food and appreciates it a lot.

There was once a time, during Father's day when me and my sister  prepared a breakfast for my dad. It was garlic rice that is heart-shaped. This was my personal favorite of all the surprises we've made because it is in heart-shaped and it means love or I simply love my dad so much.

Mother's day celebration, at home May 2013

The picture was taken on May last year, celebrating Mother's day at our house. This evening was very special to me and to my mom because this is the only time I can really express how much I love her. I and my sisters first planned to buy a cake for her, because we really want to make her happy on her special day. Actually on that evening, my mom really thought she doesn't have any cake because we weren't able to buy one, but she was really surprised when we  showed to her finally our surprise and we said "Happy Mother's day "ma".

That surprise almost made me cry because I saw how happy my mom was and I learned how to appreciate more surprises with food. How to appreciate the food you give to your loved ones. From that experience, I learned that in every food that we prepare for our loved ones, it should come from the heart and with the most sincere way as possible. This is another way of how can we make use of food to make our loved ones happy and for them to appreciate the food that we prepared for them more.

Family Gatherings!

Most of us likes family gatherings because they enjoy having one and because of course, because of the many food in the table. Usually family gatherings comes with humongous amounts of food that people really crave for and come for. We Filipinos are really known for having a huge interest in food and enjoys it a lot more with our family and friends. Food for us can be a source of communication or a way of getting to bond with other people more. There can be many ways of planning a family gathering. It can be a formal one, or a party type. It can be to formal to fun activities.

Birthday celebration of ali and bibble, January 2014 part 2

The picture was taken from the birthday celebration of my niece, Ali and my nephew, Bibble. It was really a fun and really exciting gathering because we celebrated the birthdays of our two cute little ones! Ali was turning to be 3 and Bibble was turning to be 5. They are growing so fast but I am happy I was one of the people who attended and enjoyed in their birthday celebration. It was more fun when some of my friends from other school came and all of my family relatives where also there. Our eyes were already full when we saw the mouth-watering large amounts of food on the table. Before the day starts for Ali and Bibble, they first had their pictorial together...

Ali and Bibble birthday celebration: games and fun activities January 2014

The picture was taken when I joined in one of the games of Ali and Bibble's celebration. I really had fun and really enjoyed it because I was with some of my friends and it was a girls vs. boys game! All of us really laughed at some point because we where all into the game and some were just boasting up with laughter. hahaha. The party was more interesting because it was a forest theme. with candies everywhere and cupcakes with animals on top. It was a bucket of candies on the table after dinner and the kids really enjoyed getting as many candies as they can. It was quite funny because I also ransacked with the other kids and I was the biggest of them all! hahahaha, family gatherings is also important because it can make us bond more with other people through food and can communicate with them also through food.

What's your favorite food?

All of us have different kinds of favorite food. Some crave for sweets just like what my friend said but some go for the savory ones. Other people have many favorite foods you can't even count how many, it's so ridiculous! Just like one of my friends, she says that her favorite food is  pizza, chicken adobo, sinigang, fish and chips, fried chicken, etc. I have friends who like ice cream so much. Others say that frozen yogurts are the best. I have a friend that her all time favorite food is "arroz caldo" since she was still a kid. I just love asking what my friends  favorite food is. How about you? What's your favorite food?

But for me, my favorite food since I was a kid is spaghetti. I like spaghetti a lot because it is yummy, it is full of hot dog which I like the most and it has that sweet-savory meaty sauce. Every time I celebrate my birthday, they always cook me "spag" as they say it, because they know it will make me happy. Even my closest know it too. Whenever we go out together and will have our lunch, they would always notice that I often order anything that is pasta.

So this is the picture when I celebrated my birthday a few years before, and as you can see there is spaghetti everywhere :) I like celebrating my birthday because I get to share the food that my family cooks for me with my other relatives. I think it's important for us to have our own favorite food because we can really enjoy our eating time, eating our most favorite food. Life is also more fun when you have your own favorite food. You can share it with others and also ask them what's theirs. It's either your laugh at their favorite food or they will laugh at yours. It can be a fun experience to you and to others! So if you still don't have your own favorite food, well think again and I hope that you may have your favorite food someday...

KKFT: Kakaibang Food Trip

We Filipinos really like to have different kinds of food trips. Some of us likes to have their food trips during vacations. Sometimes I like having my food trips with my friends in school. Where we have a  "chit-chat" for awhile and also our food just goes with the flow. Food trips can also occur during family gatherings. When you hang-out with your friends late at night for some picnic or some coffee. Food trips can also be in different ways. If you want it with simple food, or with more extravagant food.

Food trip: I love Backyard BBQ,  Boracay 2011

This summer, me and my family went to Hong Kong for our vacation there. Activities including our trip is exploring their different kinds of food and delicacies. One of our experiences there was scarcely finding for food because didn't know whaqt where the places where food can be found. We asked help from a Filipino who was working in Hong Kong for almost 2 years. He showed us this local diner where they specialize in different kinds of noodles. From their, we really thanked the guy and enjoyed our dinner in the local diner he showed us.

Food Trip: Assumption Iloilo with friends part 3

Among all the food trips, I really it with friends. With friends because it is always fun. We always laugh at funny jokes and sometimes play with our food but in a non-violent way. The pictures were taken when we had our play practice 2013-2014, when we were still in grade eight. I miss this kind of bonding with my friends so much, because they are not my classmates anymore. But our friendship didn't end eventually because this year we still talk to each other from time to time. It's just amazing to think that our bonds of friendship through the years tightened because of food. Food, because we share it with others. And because of that sharing, bonds begin to happen and happy moments as well.

These picture was taken when my best friend, Alaina Aguro celebrated her birthday last June 22. We had a dinner with friends. This is also a food trip during dinner, we also laughed and talked much while waiting for our food. Talking about how delicious the food was and who was really full afterwards. It was fun actually, eating your favorite food with the special people in your life. And again, a bond happened that night. Our friendship strengthened again and fortunate I am to have such unique friends like them.

Ilonggo Cuisine

What is Ilonggo Cuisine? It is a cuisine that we Ilonggos have something to be proud of. For example, our very famous La paz Batchoy, that originated here in La paz. We should really be proud of our own special batchoy because even some of the tourists comes back for more. Through Ilonggo Cuisine, we can share this with other people and to show to them how proud we are of these kinds of food and how it gives back pride to our own city.

But wait, there's more. We should not be greedy about our cuisines here. We have also our very own Kadios, Baboy, Langka. Some might ask what is the taste of it. Some might say it tastes weird. But it is actually delicious, if you ask me. The flavor of the jack fruit really blends in with the flavor of slow cooked pork. It's nice to eat this dish right after it is straight off the pan. My personal choice to eat this is with rice. In every occasion we cannot just simply say that there's no rice rice right? because we Filipinos are really a fan of eating our meals with rice.

We also have our very own fresh lumpia. This type of roll is very healthy because there is no meat and all of it's ingredients is made up of thinly sliced vegetables, not cooked. With just the smell of it is to die for. It's really fresh and tasty too. It has a blend of spices and nutty flavor at the same time.

Kinilaw is our next cuisine. There are many versions of kinilaw: na isda, dilis, puso ng saging, pusit, talaba, labanos and amapalaya. But most of us ilonggos prefer "Kinilaw na puso ng saging" because of its unuasual taste. I never tasted one but they say it's really delicious. There was a time when my sister made kinilaw na puso ng saging at home. She asked for the puso ng saging at our neighbor's because they have a lot of banana trees at the back of their house. While she was preparing it, I was curious of what it actually tastes and it really look unappetizing. But when I tasted it, I was surprised it was really delicious and I kept asking for more!

Lastly is the Laswa. It is a dish that is made up of vegetables and what makes it special is that, shrimp is included in one of the ingredients. It is better to prepare this with the shrimp's head and shell. This dish originated here, in Iloilo. This dish is best eaten with rice and while it is still hot. This dish is not only healthy but is also packed with flavors from the different vegetables.

Ilonggo Cuisine is really important to us because this is one way of promoting to others, the food that originally came from our city and how we should give honor to it as it also gives back pride to ours.
